The stage is set for an electrifying FKF Division Two Eastern Zone promotion mini-league from Friday, 16th to Sunday, 18th August, at two venues: Kinunga Stadium in Nyeri and Dandora Stadium in Nairobi, with the winners earning an automatic ticket to FKF Division One Zone A next season.
A total of six teams from Eastern Zone A, B, C, D, E, and F have been placed in two pools, with three teams in each pool set to battle for the coveted promotion spots. Pool A consists of Strathmore University, Githurai AllStars, and Embakasi AllStars, while Pool B includes Royal Fresh FC, Marafiki FC, and Kangemi Allstars.
On Friday and Saturday, the three teams in each pool will compete following a draw, with the winners from both pools advancing to a decider on Sunday at Thika Stadium to determine the overall champion of the FKF Division Two Eastern Zone 2023/24 season.
However, both Kangemi Allstars and Royal Fresh FC have written a protest letter to the federation, requesting a venue change as Kinunga Stadium is the home ground of Marafiki FC, who are also competing in Pool B, prompting a call for a neutral ground.
Royal Fresh FC coach Donald Otieno, speaking ahead of the playoffs, said his team is ready for the challenge and is determined to become the first team from Nyeri to compete in the third tier. “The team is in great shape and focused; we are going all out for victory. For now, I am working on the mental strength and character of the players. Furthermore, my main aim is to seek promotion to Division One,” he told Passion Sports.
Pool A matches will be held at Dandora Stadium.
