Coach Kamara Hails Team Effort as Strathmore University FC Secures FKF Division One Promotion
Strathmore University FC head coach John “Kamara” Mbenzwa expressed his delight after guiding the team to promotion to the FKF Division One league for the 2024/25 season.
Kamara, who has been at the helm of the team through several promotion attempts, praised his players for finally achieving their long-sought goal.
“We set a target at the start of the season to finish with 65 points, and I’m proud to say we surpassed that with 67 points from 22 wins, 3 draws, and 3 defeats,” he told Passion Sports.

Kamara also shared insights into his tactical approach during the crucial promotion match against FKF Division Two Eastern Zone E champions Githurai AllStars. He revealed that after analyzing Githurai’s pressing style, he strategically deployed Chuny Aguer on the right wing, a decision that paid off as Aguer’s relentless attacks unsettled the GAS defense and led to an assist for Clifton Shukrani’s goal.
“The match was evenly balanced, but we focused on pressing their two key midfielders throughout. In the second half, we intensified our pressure in their half, which led to our second goal on the counter,” Kamara added.
Strathmore University FC secured promotion by topping Pool B in the FKF Division Two Eastern Zone promotion mini-league. They emerged victorious after defeating Githurai AllStars 2-1 in a match held at Dandora Stadium on 18th August 2024, cementing their place in the FKF third tier for the upcoming season.
