STARS ABROAD: Olunga’s hat-trick caps a Saturday of mixed results
Kenyan international Michael Olunga scored a hat-trick as Al Duhail defeated Qatar SC 6-1 in their first match of the new Qatar Stars League season on Saturday evening.
Olunga struck twice in quick succession in the 41st and 44th minutes, giving Al Duhail a 2-0 lead by halftime.
Qatar SC pulled one back through Congolese forward Ben Malango in the 64th minute. However, Ismael Mohammed restored Al Duhail’s dominance with two goals in the 69th and 82nd minutes. Abdullah Al Arhak added a fifth before Olunga completed his hat-trick in stoppage time, sealing the 6-1 victory.
Other Stars Abroad
In other matches involving Kenyan players, Zak Vyner played the full 90 minutes as Bristol City drew 1-1 with Hull City in the English Championship.
Josphat Lopaga made his debut for Naftan Novopolotsk in their 1-1 draw against BATE Borisov in the Belarus Premier League. Lopaga, on loan from Dynamo Brest, was substituted in the 51st minute.
In Scotland, Richard Odada came off the bench in the 81st minute during Dundee United’s 1-1 draw with Ross County. Meanwhile, Bryan Mwangi, another Kenyan at Dundee United, recently joined Broxburn Athletic on loan until January.
In Romania, Eric Johana played the entire match as Uta Arad drew 1-1 with Otelul. Uta Arad currently sits sixth in the league with six points after five games.
