SDT Suspends Gor Mahia AGM as Parties Seek Resolution
The Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) has halted Gor Mahia’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), originally scheduled for Saturday, after the involved parties reached a mutual agreement to postpone the event.
Lawyer Benard Agwera Omolo had filed a case at the Tribunal earlier in the week, questioning the legality of the AGM and claiming the current Executive Committee’s term had expired. Omolo argued that the Executive Committee, led by chairman Ambrose Rachier, took office on 8 August 2020 and should have held fresh elections by 8 August 2024. He also raised concerns over the club’s non-compliance with the Sports Act, 2013, Sports Registrar Regulations, 2016, and the Constitution of Kenya.

During a preliminary hearing on Wednesday, the parties consented to postpone the AGM to allow time for both sides to prepare their cases. Gor Mahia has been given 14 days to file their response to the main claim, after which the case will be mentioned on 8 October for further directions.
“The two parties have been given two weeks each to file their responses. We’ll reconvene on 8 October to set a hearing date,” said Gor Mahia Vice Chairman, Francis Wasuna, in a statement.
In the meantime, both parties have been granted the liberty to negotiate, potentially resolving the matter out of court.
The AGM was expected to set the stage for upcoming elections and discussions around converting Gor Mahia into a Limited Liability Company. However, the delay now leaves the club’s future leadership in limbo.
Ambrose Rachier, Gor Mahia’s chairman, questioned the motives behind Omolo’s legal action, accusing him of trying to cause unnecessary disruption. “What does he intend to achieve? Cause chaos?” asked Rachier.
Gor Mahia, the defending FKF Premier League champions, are gearing up for the new season. The team is also competing in the CAF Champions League and is scheduled to face Egypt’s Al Ahly SC next week in the round of 32.
