Kenyan Players Flock to Tanzania as FKFPL Transfer Window Closes
The FKF Premier League preseason transfer window closed on Monday, with Tanzania standing out as the most preferred destination for the league’s talents.
Four players have completed moves to the Tanzania Premier League, also known as Ligi Kuu Bara. Among them is last season’s second-highest scorer, John Mark Makwata, who left Kariobangi Sharks for Coastal Union, which is now also home to former Bandari winger Abdallah Hassan. Tusker FC’s duo, Erick Kapaito—named the league’s most valuable player for the 2020-21 season—and Ibrahim Joshua, have signed for Namungo FC and Kengold SC, respectively, both in Ligi Kuu Bara. Stanley Wilson Omondi became the only player to move to Europe, joining Sweden’s AIK from Kariobangi Sharks.

Meanwhile, last season’s top scorer Benson Omala has secured a deal with Safa Sporting Club in Lebanon, while Brian Bwire has joined Polokwane City in South Africa.
Rwandan winger Patrick Sibomana moved to Libya’s Ettihad Almistraty following the expiration of his contract with Gor Mahia, while South Sudanese striker Tito Okello left Kenya Police FC to join Indonesia’s PSM Makassar.
In Uganda, Derrick Ngoobi signed for Express FC from Sofapaka SC, while another Ugandan, Derrick Nsibambi, returned home to KCCA FC from Bandari FC.
Notable domestic moves also took place, with Samuel Onyango returning to Gor Mahia from Kenya Police FC. K’Ogalo also strengthened their attack by acquiring striker Samuel Kapen from Nairobi City Stars.
AFC Leopards made significant signings, landing Harambee Stars attacker Ovella Ochieng from South Africa’s Richards Bay FC, and Sydney Lokale from DR Congo’s St. Eloi Lupopo.
