There was interest from various clubs most notably Simba SC in Tanzania and most recently Aris in the Cyprus top division but the Harambee Stars defender has opted to join Israeli side Hapoel Haifa who have offered better terms.
Hapoel Haifa finished fourth in the Israeli Premier League and are eager to fight for the title next season. Omurwa will be the fourth foreigner in the club.
The club drew 1-1 with second-tier side Ironi Tiberias last week in the Toto Cup, the third most important competition in Israeli football. It features clubs in the top and second tiers.
The club’s manager Ronny Levi has been open about the status of the team; “It doesn’t look good at the moment, we have to keep getting stronger if we don’t want to find ourselves in trouble this season. It is the beginning of the season and the players are not yet in the best shape, they are tired, we had to make rotations and avoid injuries. We also lack depth.” He said after the game against Tiberias.
Omurwa will become the second Kenyan player to play in the Israel Premier League after former Kenyan International Patrick “Armando” Osiako who played for Hapoel Be’er Sheva.
