KSSSA: Highway Secondary School crowned National football champions
Harambee Starlets and Kenya Police Bullet FC head coach Beldine Odemba has led Highway Secondary School to the National Secondary School Football title following their 3-2 win over Musingu High School in post-match penalties after a one-all draw in regular time, in a clash staged at Gusii Stadium on Thursday afternoon.
This is Highway’s first-ever National title.
Western Region champions Musingu were the first to see the net with a goal from Elias Ochieng before Elvin Oloo equalized for Highway in the 19th minute.
Against the run of play, Highway would be dealt a big blow in added time when their captain Osotsi was shown a red card for a dangerous tackle on Kevin Manani
Not even the extra time could decide the winner, after the teams had settled for a 1-1 draw in the regular time, forcing the shootouts. Where highway won 3-2.
In Girls football, Butere Girls have successfully defended the title after a 2-0 win over Nyakach Girls in the final held in the same stadium.
In the third-place playoff, St Joseph’s girls from kitale overpowered the coast champions Kombani girls 1-0 to earn a ticket.
A total of six teams in football will represent Kenya in the Federation of East Africa Secondary School Sports Association (FEASSSA) games in Uganda from 16th to 26 August this includes Boys: Highway Secondary School, Musingu High School, St Joseph’s Boys, Girls: Butere girl, Nyakach girls, St Joseph’s girls.
