CECAFA Kagame Cup: Gor Mahia to Face Al-Hilal Omdurman in Dead Rubber Match

Last Updated: July 16, 2024By 229 words1.1 min read

Kenyan champions Gor Mahia will play against Al-Hilal Omdurman of Sudan on Tuesday, July 16th, at the Azam Complex from 4PM EAT.

This match is essentially a dead rubber for Gor Mahia, as they have already been knocked out of the Kagame Cup after a loss to Zambia’s Red Arrows and a draw with Telkom of Djibouti.

Gor Mahia’s fate was sealed on Monday when APR drew with SC Villa in Group C. This result secured Rwanda’s APR the top spot in their group, allowing them to move on to the semifinals. SC Villa will now compete for the second spot against Red Arrows from Groups C and D, respectively.

SC Villa has five points, while Red Arrows have three. For Red Arrows to advance, they must win their match against Telkom FC on Tuesday. If they fail to secure a victory, SC Villa will proceed to the semifinals.

K’Ogalo will face a formidable Al-Hilal Omdurman team, which has maintained a perfect record in the CECAFA Kagame Cup so far. Al-Hilal defeated Telkom FC 2-0 and then overpowered Red Arrows with a 5-0 victory. While Gor Mahia has no chance of advancing, they will still aim to put in a strong performance and avoid exiting the 2024 CECAFA Kagame Cup without a win.
