Tusker thrash bottom side Posta to keep chase as KCB remains top

Tusker FC came from a goal down to beat Posta Rangers 3-1 at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos. The victory took Tusker to 27 points, same as leaders KCB who picked up a 4-3 win over Mara Sugar in a thriller played in Murang’a.

The bankers are top with goal difference.

In Machakos, the mailmen had gone ahead in the 32nd minute through Ivan Ochieng, but a quick response from Ryan Ogam levelled matters before Tom Teka headed home the second. Skipper Charles Momanyi finished off the win with a goal four minutes to time, as the brewers finished the year with 27 points.

Keen to pick another three points, Tusker had a strong start to the game with Dennis Wanjala striking inches over the bar from the edge of the box while Shaphan Siwa forced the keeper to a fantastic double save with efforts from inside the box.

George Kaddu also had a well timed header from a Wanjala cross go just inches wide.

Against the run of play, the mailmen broke the deadlock. Ivan headed unmarked inside the box from a recycled ball off a corner.

However, straight from the restart, the boys levelled. Ogam scored his 13th goal of the season with a powerful strike from inside the box off a brilliant assist from the impressive Thomas Omole.

Two minutes later it was 2-1 when Teka headed home at the backpost, Wanjala’s precise corner finding him in good space.

In the second half, Posta came back stronger and had a better start, but the boys defended well.

It should have been 3-1 in the 68th minute when Omole, who enjoyed a stelar performance made a daunting run on the left after winning the ball off a Posta defender. He cut back a cross for Ogam who had made a run inside the box, but his effort with the weaker right foot sailed wide.

Ultimately though, the third would finally come. Skipper Momanyi nodded home his third goal of the season with a header at the backpost, finishing off a cross from substitute Yussuf Mainge who had come in for his Tusker FC debut.
