AFC Leopards will camp in Kakamega County for a week starting Monday as they prepare for the new 2024-25 FKF Premier League season starting at the end of this month.
Ingwe already commenced preseason in Nairobi, but are expected to engage a higher gear in Kakamega where they lined up a series of local friendlies.
Speaking to Passion Sports, Leopards chairman Dr Dan Shikanda noted that the decision to go to Western Kenya for preseason is well thought out.
“The decision is technical. There is a lot of talent in the region that we hope to tap. It is also well known that Western Kenya is the cradle of Ingwe, so we’ll also take the opportunity to engage our fans,” the former Leopards player said.
Shikanda revealed that they will also tour Uganda as part of their preseason activities. “The team will travel to Uganda before the season begins. While there, we plan to gauge ourselves against the top sides there.”
The exact dates for the tour have not been confirmed.
Meanwhile, Tusker FC are already in Uganda and will play three friendly games including against Lugazi FC.
FKF Cup winners Kenya Police FC were invited for the inaugural Vipers SC Day where they played and lost to the hosts 2-0.
Champions Gor Mahia featured in the CECAFA Club Cup in Tanzania, but failed to grace the Coal City International Cup in Enugu, Nigeria.
AFC Leopards will begin their season campaign with a fixture against returning Mathare United on Saturday, August 24, 2024.
To strengthen the squad, Shikanda said that they are planning to sign four new players. “Do not expect a lot of changes in the squad. We shall do about four signings, and that will be it.”
