The Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) has issued a temporary order to stop the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) from publishing the final list of delegates for the upcoming elections. This decision follows a petition filed by Geophrey Mudembei, the Vice Chair of the FKF Kakamega Branch, who raised concerns over the fairness and transparency of the delegate nomination process.

Mudembei filed the case on October 9, 2024, naming the FKF Electoral Board, Appeals Committee, and General Secretary as respondents. Additionally, the Cabinet Secretary for Sports and the Sports Registrar have been listed as interested parties. Mudembei’s petition highlights alleged irregularities in the process, which he claims could compromise the integrity of the elections.

After reviewing the petition, SDT member Mrs. Njeri Onyango certified the case as urgent and granted a temporary order halting the publication of the delegate list until the case is heard. The Tribunal has directed the FKF to serve Mudembei with all necessary documents by October 11, 2024.

The next mention of the case is scheduled for October 22, 2024, when further directions will be issued by the Tribunal. This legal battle could impact the FKF elections, as the delegate list is crucial in determining who will cast votes during the polls.

With the Tribunal’s involvement, questions around the transparency of the election process have intensified, and stakeholders will closely watch how the situation unfolds. The FKF has yet to comment on the developments.
