Samuel Onyango has been training with Gor Mahia since Thursday, fueling speculation about a possible return to his former club.

The Harambee Stars winger is currently a free agent, having parted ways with FKF Premier League side Kenya Police FC at the end of last season. Onyango had signed with the Law Enforcers in January after a stint in the Zambian Super League with Kabwe Warriors.

“I’ve been free, so I requested to train with Gor Mahia, and I’m surprised it’s already big news on the internet,” Onyango told Passion Sports exclusively.

When asked about a potential return to the team he helped win three league titles since joining from Ulinzi Stars in 2017, Onyango said, “I’m open to anything. We can only wait and see. For now, I’m just training and keeping fit.”

Gor Mahia recently lost their talisman and top scorer for the past two seasons, Benson Omala, who moved to Lebanese side Safa Sporting Club earlier this month.

The club’s chairman, Ambrose Rachier, did not rule out the possibility of signing a replacement for Omala, stating that the decision would be made by the technical bench. “We’re open to signing another striker to replace Omala, but that call can only come from the technical bench,” Rachier said.

In Omala’s absence, Christopher Ochieng has been the mainstay in front of goal. He scored as K’Ogalo secured a 5-2 aggregate victory over El Merreikh Bentiu of South Sudan in the CAF Champions League preliminary round.
