Refurbished Ulinzi Sports Complex to host Starlets’ WAFCON qualifiers
The Ulinzi Sports Complex will host Kenya’s home matches in the journey towards qualification for the 2026 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations. The stadium has undergone a massive facelift as it was earmarked as one of the training facilities for the 2024 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) which will now be held in August.
The state of the playing surface had hugely impressed CAF’s team of inspectors who had toured the facility three weeks to the earlier CHAN start date of February 1, and it was always set to be given a nod to host an international match.
The Ulinzi Complex played host to Kenya’s Under-17 Girls’ World Cup journey, and they earned their historic qualification at the same facility with a brilliant 2-0 win over Burundi.
The Senior Starlets, who are seeking a ticket to the WAFCON after missing out since 2016 will seek to tap into the same grace as the Under-17 girls.
The team started camp on Monday, and are scheduled to play Tunisia in a two-legged first round tie. They will host the first leg on February 21 and play the second leg up north four days later.
