Nick Mwendwa to Deputize Doris Petra in New FKF President Ticket
Doris Petra will run for the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president in the forthcoming elections, Passion Sports can exclusively reveal.
In a shift of roles, Petra, who is currently the FKF Vice-President, has chosen her current boss, Nick Mwendwa, as her running mate in a ticket likely to send shockwaves through the already crowded race.
For the last eight years, Petra has loyally served as Nick Mwendwa’s deputy, avoiding any friction with him, especially in public. As a reward for her commitment, Mwendwa has decided to back her bid for the top seat.
This strategic move is equally tactful as it seeks to avoid any legal challenges of eligibility as spelt out in the Sports Act 2013. According to section six of the act, an official of a sports organization can only serve in one position for a maximum of two renewable terms of four years each.
“They did not want any legal battles over the sticky issue of eligibility. By shifting roles, they’re now perfectly eligible as per the FKF constitution and the Sports Act 2023,” a close source intimated.
Interestingly, former FKF General Secretary Barry Otieno, who recently resigned, has also announced his candidature for the top seat. It is said former Kenyan international Doreen Nabwire will be his running mate. Others in the race include Extreme Sports CEO Hussain Mohammed who will be deputised by McDonald Mariga, former Harambee Stars player Sammy Owino “Kempes,” Jack Oguda, former president Sam Nyamweya, and Kakamega Homeboyz FC owner Cleophas Shimanyula.
