IF Elfsborg has officially announced the extension of Timothy Ouma’s contract, which will now run through the 2027 season. The Swedish club is thrilled to secure the services of the talented Kenyan midfielder, who has made significant strides since joining the team in the summer of 2022.

Timothy Ouma expressed his excitement about the new agreement, emphasizing the dedication he has shown since arriving at Elfsborg.

“I have worked hard since I came to Elfsborg, and now I am finally getting the results I want, so I am very happy to have signed a new contract,” he shared.

Ouma joined IF Elfsborg from Nairobi City Stars FC in the Kenyan Premier League and made his Allsvenskan debut later that year, coming off the bench in a 3-0 victory against Helsingborgs IF on 31st October. Since then, he has accumulated 34 competitive appearances for the club.

Reflecting on his time with Elfsborg, Ouma highlighted the importance of making the most of his opportunities.

“I have been waiting for my chance, and when I got it at the beginning of the summer, I took it. Since then, I am very happy about the playing time I get. I think I have performed well, especially recently, but I still want to get even better every day,” he added.

This season has been a breakthrough for Ouma, transitioning from a promising young player to one of the top midfielders in the Allsvenskan. His contributions have made him an integral part of manager Oscar Hiljemark’s setup.

Ouma’s development has also coincided with Elfsborg’s participation in the UEFA Europa League, offering him valuable experience on a larger stage.

“It is huge for me to play in the Allsvenskan, but of course, even more now that we also play in the Europa League. It’s great to get the chance to play on the big stage in Europe, both for me personally but also for the whole team of course,” Ouma noted.

The new contract, which adds an additional year to the previous agreement that was set to expire in 2026, reflects a mutual commitment between the club and the player. Ouma is looking forward to continuing his journey with the team.

“Now it’s just about continuing to take one match at a time and working hard for each other in the team. The key to getting better is to keep working as I have done so far. It is important to listen, learn, and that we all continue to pull in the same direction,” he concluded.

Club manager Stefan Andreasson praised Ouma’s progress since joining Elfsborg.

“With great patience and impressive work by our coaching staff, Timothy has developed every year since he came to us from Nairobi Stars in the summer of 2022. In 2024, he has shown that he belongs to one of the Allsvenskan’s best in his position and spiced it up with strong performances in the Europa League,” said Andreasson.

He also acknowledged interest from other clubs but emphasized that the decision to extend Ouma’s stay at Elfsborg was in the best interest of both parties.

“After good discussions during the summer, we decided that a continuation in Elfsborg is the best right now. Based on this, we have now also extended Timothy’s contract until the 2027 season, which feels very good, and we are now looking forward to the end of the Allsvenskan and continued big matches in Europe,” he added.

Manager Oscar Hiljemark expressed his satisfaction with the contract extension, highlighting Ouma’s recent growth.

“We are happy that IF Elfsborg and Timothy have agreed on a contract extension. He has shown a nice development, especially in the last few months, and has been responsible for many good performances. Now we look forward to continuing to work together,” Hiljemark remarked.

With the new contract in place, both IF Elfsborg and Timothy Ouma are eager to build on their recent successes as they aim for a strong finish in the Allsvenskan and further achievements in European competitions.
