The Kansas City Current, a leading team in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) in the United States, has officially announced the signing of Kenyan forward Mwanalima Adam Jereko.

Commonly known as Dogo, the 26-year-old was until recently playing for Hakkarigücü Spor in the Turkish Women’s Super League. She has signed a contract with Kansas City Current that extends through the 2025 season, with an option for the 2026 season.

Dogo expressed her excitement about joining the Kansas City Current, stating, “I can’t wait to get to Kansas City and play for the Current. The organization has been incredible with me, and I am very excited to be part of this club.”

She played a crucial role in leading Kenya to its first CECAFA Women’s Championship finals in 2019 and has been a mainstay in the national team since being selected for the U-17 squad in 2015. With nearly a decade of experience, she has represented Kenya in all major tournaments, including the recent 2024 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Kansas City Current head coach Vlatko Andonovski praised the new signing, saying, “Jereko is an exciting player that will be a great fit here. Her enthusiasm, skill, and work ethic are exactly what we are looking for as we get back into the regular season.”

Dogo’s journey in football began in high school with Mombasa Olympic Ladies before she joined Thika Queens FC in 2018, where she quickly made her mark. In 2021, she became the Kenyan Premier League’s top scorer, leading Thika Queens to an undefeated season. Her outstanding performance in Kenya paved the way for her move to Hakkarigücü Spor in the Turkish Super League later that year. Jereko continued to excel in Turkey, scoring 11 goals in her first 17 games and becoming the team’s captain in 2023. Last season, she netted 23 goals, including two hat tricks.

Jereko will join the Kansas City Current as they return to regular season action on August 25 against the Washington Spirit in Washington D.C., following the conclusion of their International Summer of Soccer campaign.
