Harambee Stars Move Up Six Spots in FIFA Rankings After Solid AFCON Qualifier Performances
Kenya’s Harambee Stars have made a notable jump in the latest FIFA World Rankings, climbing six places to position 102. The rise comes on the back of solid performances in the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
After holding Zimbabwe to a 0-0 draw in a Group J clash on 6th September, the Stars followed up with a 2-1 victory over Namibia just days later. The win against Namibia, who were ranked 98th at the time, has been pivotal to the team’s progress in the rankings. Kenya’s points tally has now improved to 1208.96 from 1197.73 in the last update.

The FIFA rankings, released on Thursday, reflect the growing strength of Harambee Stars under coach Engin Firat as they look to secure qualification for the 2025 AFCON.
On the global stage, the top 10 remains unchanged, with Argentina leading the pack, followed by France, Spain, and England. Meanwhile, Morocco continues to dominate African football, holding 14th place, with Senegal and Egypt completing the top three African sides. DR Congo, ranked 58th, remains the highest-ranked team in East Africa.
Kenya’s regional rivals, Uganda and Tanzania, have also seen improvements, moving up to 90th and 110th, respectively. As Harambee Stars prepare for their crucial AFCON qualifier against Cameroon next month, the team will be eyeing a potential breakthrough into the top 100.
