The 2024-25 Charity Shield match between Gor Mahia and Kenya Police FC that was scheduled for Sunday 11 August 2024 has been canceled.
According to Gor Mahia Team Manager Victor Otieno, the club received an email from the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) informing them of the decision citing lack of a suitable venue.
The season curtain raiser was booked at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Langata.
“We have been preparing well for the game, and the decision has taken us by surprise,” Victor told Passion Sports.
Ulinzi Stars FC are reportedly planning to use the same venue to host their fans day on the same day. However, according to a close source, the stadium’s management are equally surprised by the decision to cancel the Charity Shield.
Ahead of the fixture, the federation had picked the trophy from Gor Mahia who won it last season against Kakamega Homeboyz FC.
Kenya Police FC earned the right to feature in the one-off game by virtue of winning the FKF Cup, their first major cup, last season, while Gor Mahia booked their spot by winning the FKF Premier League.
