Faith Kipyegon Sets New 1500m World Record in Thrilling Paris Diamond League
Kenya’s middle-distance sensation Faith Kipyegon has once again shattered the women’s 1500m world record, clocking an incredible 3:49.04 at the Paris Diamond League on Sunday evening to set a new World Record.
Kipyegon, making her 2024 Wanda Diamond League debut, initially planned to use this race as a preparatory run for the upcoming Paris Olympics. However, she surpassed all expectations, staying close to the race pacemakers before executing her signature powerful finish.
Under pressure from Australian Jessica Hull, Kipyegon unleashed her famous final kick on the last bend, surging ahead to secure her fourth world record in less than a year.
Hull’s courageous effort earned her a personal best of 3:50.82, which also set a new area record. Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Laura Muir finished third, clocking a national record of 3:53.79, while USA-based Susan Ejore, who will join Kipyegon in representing Kenya at the Paris Olympics, came in sixth with a personal best of 3:57.26.
The early stages of the race hinted at something extraordinary, as the pace set by the two pacesetters proved too intense for most of the field, leaving only Kipyegon and Hull to battle it out.
