Eliud Kipchoge explains why he decided to return to the London Marathon
Two-time Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge has been confirmed as one of the stellar casts for the 2025 London Marathon to be staged in late April. Kipchoge, who holds the second fastest time in history over the distance, will be competing in the British capital for the sixth time.
He has four titles under him in London, and after a disappointing 2024 which saw him miss out on a historic Olympic hatrick, made the decision to compete in London as his first post-Paris race.
Speaking to Telecomasia.net, Kipchoge says he decided to return to London, as the city, and the marathon by extension holds a special place in his heart.
“The memories I carry from each of my five previous appearances and the four wins I had have been in my heart for long. This is what motivates me to go back there and run again. It is like going back to a home that I love and that loves me back. London is close to my heart and I am excited to go back,” he said in the interview with Telecomasia.
He has not pegged any specific targets in the marathon, but merely says he wants to compete in a beautiful race.
“Fans should expect a great and beautiful race. I am always looking forward to inspire and motivate humanity whichever shape the race takes. Definitely I will always be in to give my best, but the most important thing for me is the impact I leave in every race,” Kipchoge says.
