Busy Day in Paris for Kenyans as Omanyala, 1,500m and 800m runners chase glory
Kenya’s athletes face an exciting lineup of events this evening.
Ferdinand Omanyala, ranked 4th in the world for the 100 meters, will compete in the semifinals at 21:23 EAT. He faces stiff competition, including Canada’s Andre de Grasse, South Africa’s Benjamin Richardson, USA’s Fred Kerley, Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson, and Great Britain’s Zharnel Hughes. The top two from each heat will advance to the final, which takes place at 22:50 EAT.
In the 1,500 meters, Kenya’s Brian Komen and Reynold Kipkorir Cheruiyot will race in the first semifinal at 22:10 EAT. They will compete against world champion Josh Kerr and Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigsten. Timothy Cheruiyot, a silver medalist from Tokyo, will run in the second semifinal at 22:20 EAT.
Kenya’s women’s 800 meters athletes—Mary Moraa, Lilian Odira, and Vivian Chebet—are also set to compete. Moraa will race in the first semifinal at 21:35 EAT, Chebet in the second at 21:45 EAT, and Odira in the third at 21:55 EAT. Only the top two from each semifinal will move to the final.
Zablon Ekhal Ekwam, making his Olympic debut, will run in the men’s 400 meters Heat Six at 20:45 EAT, aiming to qualify for the semifinals.
