AFCON2025Q: Change of venue for Cameroon, Kenya game
Cameroon will now host Kenya at Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in the capital Yaounde and not at Japoma Stadium in Doula as was earlier planned.
A recent CAF, the Confederation of African Football, inspection done towards the end of September, approved Ahidjo and Kouekong Stadium in Bafoussam and not Japoma prompting the change.
“As a result, the Cameroon-Kenya match originally scheduled to be played at the Japoma Stadium in Douala on Friday 11 October 2024 will now be played at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaoundé on the same day at 5 p.m,” a communication from FECAFOOT, the Cameroon’s football governing body, states.
Cameroon are in Group J of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 qualifiers alongside Kenya, Namibia and Zimbabwe.
After round two games, the five-time African Champions are joint top of the group with the Harambee Stars on four points.
While Stars beat Namibia 2-1 and picked a barren draw against Zimbabwe in their opening two games, the Indomitable Lions edged out Namibia 1-0, before also drawing 0-0 against the Warriors of Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile, Kenya will host the return match against Cameroon behind closed doors at Nelson Mandela Stadium in Kampala, Uganda.
Kenya is among many African countries unable to host their home games at home due to lack of an approved stadium.
Named after the first president of Cameroon Ahmadou Babatoura Ahidjo who died in exile in Senegal, Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
It is used mostly for football matches and it also has athletics facilities. It was built in 1972. The stadium was renovated in 2016 ahead of the African Women Cup of Nations tournament. It has a capacity of 42,500 seats.
It is the home stadium of Canon Yaoundé, Tonnerre Yaoundé and the women’s club Louves Minproff. The stadium is also known as the home venue of the Cameroonian national football team, who drew the stadium’s record attendance of 120,000 in a football match in the 1980s. It was one of the venues used in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
