AFC Leopards Chairman Shikanda Defends Partnership with Makolanders
AFC Leopards Chairman, Dr. Dan Shikanda, has dismissed criticism surrounding the club’s partnership with FKF Women’s National Super League (WNSL) side, Makolanders.
Shikanda addressed claims circulating about the nature of the deal, saying: “We signed a deal with Makolanders to work with them as our women’s affiliate. It is quite unfortunate that there is a lot of interference from people who want to ensure that the arrangement collapses. All these stories suggesting it was solely for conforming with club licensing regulations are unfounded.”
He emphasized that the club has been actively involved in supporting the WNSL team’s operations. “We have been covering overheads for the club and paying their bills. So, when some people start telling our women’s team that the management is not taking them seriously, it’s completely untrue. They know where to come if they lack training equipment or balls,” Shikanda added.

The former Kenyan international also revealed that the women’s team will soon receive kits from Mafro, specially tailored for women. “Our kit has been delayed, and that’s why even our men’s senior team is playing in last season’s jerseys. We have made arrangements for special kits for our ladies, and you will see them in the coming days.”
When asked about future plans, Shikanda hinted that discussions are underway to formalize a full takeover of the Makolanders, rebranding them as AFC Leopards Ladies FC. “There are a few things we are finalizing, a few details, and it will be official with a formal changeover. What we discussed and signed with them is what matters—not the speculations.”
Makolanders will kick off their KWNSL season with a home fixture against Barcelona, scheduled for Sunday, 13th October, at Dandora Grounds
