Cameroon Qualifies for AFCON 2025 After Narrow Win Over Kenya
Cameroon completed a double over Kenya in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers, narrowly winning 1-0 on Monday in Kampala, Uganda.
Boris Enow secured the win with a superb free-kick in the second half, curling the ball past a fully stretched Bryne Omondi, who couldn’t reach the well-placed shot.
The first match of the double-header was held in Yaoundé on Friday, where the Indomitable Lions thrashed Kenya 4-1.
This double loss underscores Cameroon’s dominance over Kenya, having defeated them six times in their last ten encounters. The Harambee Stars have managed four draws in those matches.
With two games left, Cameroon leads Group J with 10 points, followed by Zimbabwe (5), Kenya (4), and Namibia (0).
Unlike their cautious approach in Yaoundé, Kenya showed more attacking intent in Kampala, pushing for an early goal. However, their finishing let them down at crucial moments.

Kenya’s best chance in the first half came when captain Michael Olunga opted to pass instead of shooting, setting up Duke Abuya, who then found John Avire, but the attack fizzled under pressure.
Bryne Omondi, stepping in for Patrick Matasi, made several crucial saves, including tipping over a powerful strike from Zambo Anguissa in the 30th minute and stopping a low shot from Kunde Malong four minutes later.
Nouhou Tolo thought he had given Cameroon the lead in the 41st minute, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
Kenya’s Ronney Onyango came close in the 53rd minute, hitting the crossbar with a powerful shot that had André Onana beaten. Olunga narrowly missed the rebound.
In the 64th minute, Enow capitalized on a free-kick opportunity, drilling his shot past Omondi to put Cameroon ahead.
Olunga missed a chance to equalize in the 82nd minute, as Kenya grew more desperate to salvage a point.
Kenya still has a chance to qualify for the AFCON in Morocco if they win their remaining matches against Zimbabwe and Namibia next month.
