Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League champions Gor Mahia head back to Tanzania on Thursday for two friendly matches on Friday and Sunday.

K’Ogalo, as Gor Mahia are nicknamed, will face Tanzanian Premier League sides Singida Fountain Gate FC on Friday before taking on Namungo FC on Sunday in the final warm up.

The coach Neiva Leo’s side return to Tanzania after a disappointing outing in the CECAFA Club Cup held in Dar Es Salaam last month.

The three-time CECAFA Club Cup winners failed to progress from the group stage after losing to eventual winners Red Arrows of Zambia and Al Hilal SC of Tanzania 1-0 and 2-0 respectively and drawing 1-1 against AS Ali Sabieh of Djibouti.

Gor Mahia was initially scheduled to play Kenya Police FC in the FKF Shield on Sunday, but the season curtain raiser was shelved for lack of a suitable stadium.

Kenya Police FC who earned a spot in the Shield by virtue of winning the FKF Cup have lined up a series of activities on Saturday as they mark Police Day at their Police Sacco Stadium.

 

The two clubs will represent the country in the CAF Interclubs next season.

Gor Mahia will face El Merriekh FC Bentiu from Southern Sudan in the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League, while Police FC will debut against Ethiopian Coffee in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Gor Mahia’s match against El Merriekh FC Bentiu is scheduled for the first leg on Sunday, August 18, 2024 in Juba, with the return leg taking place a week later in Nairobi.

A successful outcome would see Gor Mahia progress to the Round of 32, where they would then take on record CAF Champions League winners Al Ahly of Egypt, competing at home from September 13th to 15th and away from September 20th to 22nd.

Meanwhile, Police FC, the FKF Cup winners, will make their CAF competition debut against Ethiopian Coffee. If successful in the preliminary round, they will face Egyptian giants Zamalek in the Round of 32 for a chance to reach the group stage. The preliminary matches will be played between September 13th and 15th, with the decisive round following from September 20th to 22nd.
