Harambee Stars man Collins Sichenje was over the moon after finally making his UEFA Europa League debut as FK Vojvodina lost by a solitary goal to Ajax on Thursday evening in Amsterdam.

Branco van den Boomen goal a few minutes to stoppage time made all the difference in the game but Sichenje believes the team can overturn the result when the two teams meet again on Thursday 1st August.

“Never stop for anybody. All to play for in the second game.” Sichenje posted on Instagram.

Vojvodina coach Božidar Bandović also believes the team can do better in the second leg.

“I want to congratulate my players on the game played against a great team like Ajax. We opened the match well, we pressed high, stole some balls, but then we had problems with lateral balls, running into space. In the second half, we were better, we followed the intensity, which is higher than what we are used to in the Serbian League,” he is quoted as saying in the club’s portal,

“We could have scored a goal, we are sorry for the draw. But I am satisfied with the game and the sacrifice, they gave their best. We played a good game. Thanks to our fans for coming to support us. This kind of game against Ajax, we didn’t succumb to the atmosphere, we showed our true colors, but this is only the first game. We will prepare for the rematch and try to win,”  Bandović added.

Sichenje joined Vojvodina on loan from Swedish side AIK earlier this month.
