Brighton & Hove Albion have announced the acquisition of Tanzanian striker Aisha Masaka from Swedish side BK Hacken. The terms of the deal remain undisclosed and are pending the usual regulatory processes.

Zoe Johnson, managing director of women’s and girls’ football at Brighton, expressed her enthusiasm for the new signing.

“We’re really excited to welcome Aisha to Brighton,” Johnson said. “She’s competed at a high and testing level in Sweden and represented Hacken in the Champions League. She’s a physical striker who is dominant on the ball and a natural goalscorer. We’re looking forward to welcoming her to Albion ahead of the new season.” Zoe said.

Masaka, 20, joined BK Hacken in 2022 from Young Africans in Tanzania. During her tenure at Hacken, she played a pivotal role in helping the team secure a second-place finish in the Swedish League and reach the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League last season, where they were narrowly defeated by PSG.

Her impressive track record began in the Tanzanian Premier League, where she earned the ‘Best Goal Scorer’ title for the 2020/21 campaign after netting an astonishing 35 goals in 20 matches for Young Africans.

On the international stage, Masaka has earned 15 caps for Tanzania, scoring nine goals since her debut in 2021. She also represented Tanzania at the under-17 COSAFA Cup, where she emerged as the top goalscorer, and played a key role in Tanzania’s qualification for AFCON 2024, which will take place in Morocco next summer.
