Equity Bank Men’s Volleyball team shifts focus to playoff knockouts after beating Mt Kenya Base Yetu by 3 sets at Kasarani sports grounds in the Kenya Volleyball Federation’s (KVF) 4th National League on 17th May 2024. The men’s team started off with a dominant performance, defeating their opponents 25-15 in the first set. The second and third sets were tightly contested, but Equity managed to prevail, winning 25-20 and 25-21, respectively.

The Men’s volleyball team is now gearing up for challenging matchups as they find themselves in a strong position to qualify for the knockout playoffs after their win. Head coach Sammy Kirongo is determined to keep the team focused and intensify their training efforts as they aim for a successful run.

This season will see the playoffs adopt a different format from the round-robin showdown amongst the top four finishers that has determined the champions over the years. The champions will be decided in a knock-out competition that will involve the top eight finishers in the league at the conclusion of the regular league this weekend.

Pairings will see the top-placed team take on the eighth-place side, second place taking on seventh place, the third side plays sixth and the fourth-place finisher faces off with the fifth side for a place in the semis. The semi-finals will be a best-of-three affair with the teams bundled out in the quarters also facing off in 5 to 8 classification matches.

With their eyes set on the playoffs set to begin next week, Coach Kirongo’s squad is determined to leverage their momentum, stay disciplined in their preparation, and execute their game plan to secure a successful playoff run slated to conclude on 30th June 2024.
